Q1. Should I Pin or Sew?.

It is horses for courses. It depends on your purpose and use expectations. If in doubt seend me an email, I'm happy to help.

Q2. Advantages of using pins.

Pining the GluePirate strip to the back of your creation is the quickest and fastest way to have your piece up and mounted in the shortest time. There are two things to consider. If you are mounting in a children’s room.

  1. Pins are sharp and due consideration of the possible danger to young children (and anyone else) should be undertaken. If you just hate sewing an alternative to pins would be to use safety pins.
  2. The use of pins (or safety pins) over time, especially in areas near the sea, has the possibility of developing rust. Which in turn could leave rust markings where the pin is threaded through fabrics. Due consideration of the value of your item, your location and the expected displaying time should be undertaken.

Q3. Advantages of sewing.

Sewing the GluePirate strip does not require a fancy stitch. It does not require a machine. A simple running hand stich will hold most weights. Sewing provides a no nonsense, flush, durable and safe (both to people and to the artefact) method of setting up a permanent and archival quality mounting job.

Q4. What Adhesive / Glue should I use?.

The print faced surface is prepared to accept a wide range of adhesives. We recommend 3M command strips because they are easy to position and remove. For light weight jobs Blue Tac or similar product will work but if your piece is too heavy the Blu Tac will sheer through the center leaving a piece of blue tac on your wall and a piece on the Glue Pirate.

In all cases which ever brand you use the important thing is to follow the manufactures instructions in respect to preparation, application and weight limit.

If you are not concerned about removing the tape after use. Any of a variety of double sided tapes can be.
